About me

With over 30 years of experience working with children and families/carers, I am a qualified Adult teacher with a passion for helping families and schools understand children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). I began as a Nursery Nurse, which eventually led me to work at a residential school for children with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties. This experience sparked my interest in understanding and working with children with SEN, leading me to join the local authority as a family support worker specialising in autism and SEN.

In my role as a family support worker, I worked hands-on with children in their home environment to enhance their play and development. Throughout my career, I have been passionate about helping families and schools understand children with SEN, which has led me to offer personalised support through 1:1 consultations, workshops, courses, and educational programs.

In addition to my experience in SEN, I am a qualified child and adolescent sleep practitioner, and have facilitated a sleep clinic for the last 15 years, working 1:1 with parents/carers of children with and without SEN. Over the last 5 years, I have also been teaching parents, carers, teachers, and LSA’s at my local college, specialising in subjects around Autism.

Working with schools

I facilitate training to teachers and LSA's

During the sessions, I cover a range of topics relating to Autism, including the common characteristics and behaviours of individuals on the spectrum, strategies for supporting students with Autism in the classroom, and effective communication techniques for working with students who have Autism. The training sessions are customised to align with the specific requirements and preferences of your school.

Working with families

I support families in understanding their child's behaviours

I offer consultations and courses to families who have a child that has autism or sleep problems. Together, we develop practical strategies that can be applied at home to address specific challenges, and I provide families with valuable tools and resources to promote their child's learning and development. My ultimate objective is to empower families to create a supportive and nurturing home environment for their child's growth and development, with the assurance of top quality guidance and support.

“This course is really useful for parents with children who are experiencing challenging behaviour, and they don't know where to start. I haven't been able to find any support to help with behaviour or strategies to help with self regulation. Parents can look for information online, but it's a minefield of opinion and conflicting advice, and it can be really hard to navigate. It's great to be able to speak to someone with experience."
